Paul – PADI Course Director

Paul opened The Dive Academy in 2005 after becoming a PADI Instructor in December 2002 and has since taught all levels of PADI Courses, from introducing 8 year old children to the wonders of diving diving to training new PADI Instructors so they can live the dream for themselves!

Although busy being one of the owners, Paul is still an active Instructor, so not only do our customers benefit from having one of the most experienced PADI Professionals on the island, but he is also there on a day to day basis to ensure our standards are maintained at the highest possible level and our customers are experiencing the service they expect – no sitting behind a desk letting others do the work like most owners!

As well as a passion for diving, Paul also has a love of football and is a huge Chelsea supporter!!

Claire – Master Instructor

After first visiting Koh Samui in 2008 and falling in love with the island, after many years working in the corporate world, Claire decided to make diving her career and moved to Samui to complete her Divemaster Course and eventually her Instructor Course, both with The Dive Academy where she is now joint-owner so is also on hand to make sure customers are happy and our high standards are being maintained.

Claire enjoys teaching at all levels and her combination of fun, safety and professionalism are the key to her success with her students. She is also particularly good with children and people feeling a little bit nervous or apprehensive about diving.

As well as being a diving Instructor, Claire is an avid horse rider and is also a qualified horse riding Instructor.

Samira – PADI Instructor

Samira is from France and had her first diving experience in 2007. She has always been fascinated by the marine world, especially sharks and when she was 16, she spent 3 months in a school at sea in the Bahamas, learning about marine life.

After finishing her studies in Australia in veterinary nursing and animal sciences, she worked at Taronga Wildlife Hospital and in various conservation programmes including working with great Apes and marine mega fauna in both Asia and Africa.

Aside from her wildlife career, Samira has more than 10 years experience in the hospitality industry which is why she is able to give such great customer service to her students and guests!

Samira became a PADI Professional in 2018 in Phuket so she could share her love for diving and the marine world with other people. She teaches and guides in both French and English.

Matt – PADI Instructor

Matt completed his Divemaster and Instructor training with The Dive Academy in 2017 so he is home grown talent!

After first learning to dive in England and also working as a Life Guard, Matt decided that the warm waters of Thailand were more enticing and so he moved across to Asia to pursue his dream of becoming a diving Instructor and to maximise his enjoyment of the Thai culture.

Matt is very patient as well as funny so you will be sure to have a great time with him. Outside of diving, he is an avid Spurs supporter (don’t hold that against him!) and where possible plays football with the expat crowd on Samui.

Rit – Boat Captain

Rit is Captain of our boat “Midnight Blue” and is a valuable member of The Dive Academy crew. We have known and worked with Rit for around 15 years and were very happy when he joined our crew as Captain.

Rit is very popular in the diving community on Koh Samui and is remembered by many customers as being the happy, smiling man on the boat that is always helping people.

Like most Thai’s Rit loves English Premier League Football and unfortunately, for reasons he can’t explain, Rit is a keen Liverpool supporter although he can often be seen proudly wearing the Chelsea shirt given to him by Paul & Claire.

Sak – Driver

Sak’s smiling face is usually the first  you will see in the morning from The Dive Academy when he picks you up from your resort to take you to the dive centre for a course or to the dive boat on your diving day.

Sak is always willing to chat  on the way to or from our dive centre and enjoys meeting new people every day. From speaking hardly any English to now becoming fluent Sak is a great source of information and knowledge about Koh Samui and loves to share his knowledge so feel free to ask him questions!

Sak has become an invaluable member of The Dive Academy staff and is a huge asset to the company. He is very popular with our customers due to his big smile and happy welcome.

He has tried diving once and although he enjoyed it he prefers to stay on land!

ken-the-dive-academyKen – Driver & Equipment Technician

Ken has been working in the Samui diving industry for more than 20 years – which has included 7 years working for The Dive Academy in its early days, with a break in the middle to work on his family’s rubber tree farm back in Chumphon Province.

Ken is a qualified Scubapro & Mares equipment technician, so takes good care of all of our equipment as well as completing our yearly services.

Along with Sak, Ken transfers our customers back and forward to their resorts and will always be a cheerful, smiley face to greet you.

In his spare time, he likes to train and watch his son compete in Muay Thai!
